Parking tickets triple in Ceredigion since council takeover

The number of parking tickets issued in Ceredigion has more than tripled since the local authority took over.

In the last six months 4,653 tickets have been handed out by Ceredigion County Council traffic wardens, compared to 1,367 when the police were in charge of prosecuting motorists.

It means more than £135,000 has been paid in fines.

There were chaotic scenes particularly in Aberystwyth when the town was left without traffic wardens because of a delay in the county council taking over the running of parking enforcement.

Ceredigion County Council now employs six permanent and two temporary civil parking enforcement officers. The authority says the wardens have helped improved the flow of traffic as well as the availability of loading and disabled bays.
