South Wales Police are appealing for information after a fire killed 150 pigeons in Treherbert. It's believed the pigeon sheds were targeted deliberately, and police are treating the incident as arson.

Investigation into pigeon arson attack

Police are investigating an arson attack in which a shed containing 150 pigeons was burned to the ground.

Alun Smith called police to his allotment in Blaencwm in the Rhondda Valley following the fire early this morning.

Mr. Smith, who lives nearby, is well known in the pigeon-racing community, and had bred a number of award-winning birds.

Around 150 of the 300 pigeons being kept at the site died in the fire.

We are treating this incident very seriously. Considerable damage was caused and the owners were confronted with some awful scenes. The incident has also proved very costly for them, and they have been left distraught at their loss. We believe somebody somewhere can help our investigation, and appeal for them to come forward.

Police are investigating after a shed containing 150 prize-winning pigeons was burned to the ground.

The Fire Service was called to the site at Blaencwm in Treherbert at 5am on Wednesday.

Owner Alun Smith, who lives nearby, is well known in the pigeon-racing community, and had bred a number of award-winning birds.
