Edinburgh: 'Slight advantage' after first leg

Newport County manager Justin Edinburgh described himself as "extremely happy" after Ismail Yakubu's late goal secured a 1-0 win away at Grimsby Town in the first leg of their Blue Square Bet Premier play-off semi-final.

Edinburgh said the result gives his team "a slight advantage" ahead of Sunday's second leg, but his side still face "a tough task" to progress to the play-off final.

Newport travel to Grimsby for semi-final first leg

Newport County take their turn tonight to try to make a big stride towards a place in the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off final.

The Exiles meet Grimsby at Blundell Park, the second time in five days that they have played there.

Manager Justin Edinburgh is hoping for a better showing than Saturday's 3-0 defeat, as Newport try to set up an all-Wales Football League showdown at Wembley.
