Soliders from the 2nd Battalion the Royal Welsh have been on parade for the last time today, before they merge with the 1st Battalion.
It is one of 17 major units being lost as the size of the army is cut.
Hundreds of people came out in Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan to greet the soldiers.
Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion the Royal Welsh have marched for the last time today. In the new year the troops will merge with the 1st Battalion. A parade today in Penarth was led by Taffy the Regimental Goat and the Band and Corps of Drums of the Royal Welsh.
The merge of the regiments was announced as part of the Army 2020 structure.
