Man appears in court charged with Trinant murder

A man has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a 27-year-old man on Saturday.

Ian Davies died in hospital after suffering an injury in Trinant, near Newbridge.

Paul Mapps appeared before Newport magistrates today, where he confirmed his name, age and address. He will appear in court again at a later date.

A 26-year-old man and two women, aged 22 and 30, remain on police bail.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of Ian Davies following an incident in Trinant on Saturday 11th January.

The three other local people arrested on suspicion of murder - another 26-year-old man and two women, aged 22 and 30 - have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Trinant, near Newbridge, has been released on police bail.

Three other local people arrested on suspicion of murder - a 26-year-old man and two women aged 22 and 30 - continue to be questioned by police.

A photograph of 27-year-old Ian Davies, who died following an incident in Trinant on Saturday, has been released by Gwent Police.

Mr Davies suffered a wound to his torso and was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital where he later died.

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

'Pure shock' in Trinant at man's death

Sam Buckley lives on Marshfield Road in Trinant, where police were called to a report of an assault last night.

She told ITV News she feels "pure shock" at the incident, and describes Ian Davies, who died after sustaining a wound to his torso, as "one of the boys."

There is a police presence at Marshfield road in Trinant, near Newbridge this afternoon. It comes after a 27-year-old man died following an assault last night.
