Triathlete Non Stanford withdraws from Glasgow 2014

Commonwealth Games gold medal hope Non Stanford has withdrawn from Wales' triathlon squad for Glasgow 2014 after failing to recover from the ankle injury that has plagued her 2014 season.

Team Wales: 'Great disappointment' over Stanford injury

Team Wales Chef de Mission Brian Davies confirmed the withdrawal:

It is with great disappointment that we can confirm World Champion triathlete Non Stanford has had to withdraw from Team Wales for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games because of injury.

Non has been fighting to get back to fitness but has had to make the tough decision to not compete at the Games next month.

She will be replaced in the squad by 29 year old A&E nurse Carol Bridge.

The Swansea born athlete has been one of Team Wales' leading performers over the past year since taking her first Triathlon world championship crown last season - a success which had placed her as one of Wales' leading medal challengers in Glasgow.
