Two men jailed for Newport crash that killed Xana Doyle

Two car thieves high on drink and drugs have been jailed for their roles in the death of a popular teenager. Sakhawat Ali was twice the drink drive limit and had taken cocaine before he crashed killing passenger Xana Doyle.

Funeral of Newport crash victim to be held

The funeral of a young woman killed in a car crash in Newport is to be held today.

Xana Doyle, 19, died when the silver Toyota Avensis she was travelling in hit two lamp posts and a no entry sign close to the centre of Newport.

Xana was travelling with two other people when the crash happened earlier this month.

A 22-year-old man is accused of causing death by dangerous driving and is due to appear at Newport Crown Court on February 13.

Sakhawat Ali was also charged with unlawfully taking a vehicle, driving without insurance, driving under the influence of alcohol and dangerous driving.

Driver in court after women dies in Newport crash

A driver has appeared in court in Newport accused of killing a young woman while drunk after a stolen car somersaulted onto its roof.

Sakhawat Ali, 22, was arrested after Xana Doyle, 19, died when the silver Toyota Avensis hit two lamp posts and a no entry sign.

Ali was charged with unlawfully taking a vehicle, driving without insurance, driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerous driving and causing death by dangerous driving on Friday of last week.

He is charged with driving with 75mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg. Ali appeared at Newport Magistrates Court. The case has been sent to Newport Crown Court. He has been remanded in custody.

Ali and two other passengers escaped from the wreckage after the crash near the centre of Newport. Fire crews cut out the car occupants but the Miss Doyle died at the scene while another woman passenger was taken to hospital with arm injuries.

Police have named the woman who died in this morning's car crash on Usk Way in Newport as 19-year-old Xana Doyle.

The crash involved one car, a silver Toyota Avensis.

A 15-year-old girl from the Newport area was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with arm injuries.

Two men from Newport, age 21 and 22, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and are currently in police custody.

Two men arrested after woman dies in Newport crash

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a woman died in a road crash in Newport.

A second woman has been taken to hospital with arm injuries.

The men, who are from the area, are aged 21 and 22.

The A4042 is currently closed in both directions, while emergency services are still at the scene.
