One lane is closed westbound on the M4 Brynglas Tunnel between J25A A4042/B4596 (Newport/Grove Park Roundabout) and J26 A4051 (Malpas Road) due to flooding. It's expected to remain closed during rush-hour.
Travel time between junctions 26 and 30 on the eastbound side of the M4 is currently one-and-a-half hours. A multi-vehicle collision at the Brynglas Tunnels is the cause of the disruption. One lane is closed and a recovery operation is underway. There are 10-mile tailbacks.
Hundreds of residents around the M4 in Newport who face having their homes demolished are due to attend a public meeting this evening. Up to 300 homes could be demolished in order to widen the motorway near the Brynglas Tunnels.
Under a Welsh Government consultation, there are four proposals on the table. The fourth proposal, building two new tunnels at Brynglas has proved the most controversial. The public meeting will be held at Brynglas House at 6pm this evening.
This evening a spokesperson from the Welsh Government will attend in order to straighten things out and stop all rumours of what is going on. It will give the people from Newport a chance to have their say.
