Hudson wonder-goal helps Cardiff past Derby

Cardiff City have strengthened their grip on a Championship play-off place with a 2-0 win over Derby County. Malky Mackay's side remain sixth in the table after the victory, but are now four points clear of seventh-place Middlesbrough, with only two league games remaining.

Joe Mason put the Bluebirds in front at the Cardiff City Stadium, although his 11th goal of the season came only after the visitors had had a goal disallowed.

Defender Mark Hudson made sure of all three points midway through the second half. He seized upon a poor kick from Derby goalkeeper Frank Fielding and saw his effort from inside his own half find the net.

Cardiff beat Barnsley to keep play-off place

Cardiff City have held on to sixth spot in the Championship, after winning 1-0 away at Barnsley. Liam Lawrence's second-half header made sure of all three points at Oakwell. Malky Mackay's side are now unbeaten in seven games, and two points ahead of seventh-place Middlesbrough.

There are three Championship league games remaining, and Cardiff - who face Derby at home on Tuesday night - have their destiny in their own hands when it comes to securing a play-off place, and a shot at the Premier League.
