Archaeologists have discovered prehistoric human and animal footprints on a beach at Borth, near Aberystwyth.
The team, from the University of Wales Trinity St David, carried out the work after the tide revealed a large area of hardened peat beneath the sand.
The human footprints range from those thought to be of a 4 year old, right up to those of adults. They were found alongside animal tracks, ranging from cattle, sheep and even a bear.
“Evidence, such as children’s footprints are very rare from the past” says Dr Ros Coard
"To see such small children’s foot prints in the sediment really brings the past into the present in a way that any parent or child today could understand’.
