Locals are up in arms after Caerphilly County Borough Council removed stone edgers, gravel and ornaments from graves in Bedwellty Cemetery without the permission of the grave owners.
A public meeting was held last night where locals were told the council are trying to turn it into a lawn 'military style' cemetery. Locals were assured that the council has suspended all works until the matter can be resolved.
"We appreciate that this is a very sensitive issue and the works have been temporarily suspended pending a review of procedures. The council has adopted a Lawn Grave Policy in its cemeteries to ensure there is a consistent approach to the appearance of the plots.
