Some locals say their picturesque village is called Llansantffraid whilst others say Llansanffraid. The village has two signs - with and without a "t" - and both have been defaced by opposing factions. A poll of the 1,100 residents is now planned to settle the dispute.
Rows erupted when Powys council dropped the letter after 150 years back in 2008, claiming that the "t" wrongly identified the Celtic saint as a man instead of a woman.
Post bosses insist on no "t". The school and bowls club use a "t". And the football team is now called The New Saints... with a "t".
Dyfed-Powys Police say they are concerned for the wellbeing of a 32-year-old man from Llansantffraid in Powys, who has been reported missing by his family.
Mark Parsons is described as 6ft tall, of a large build, shaven head and with tattoos on his arms.
He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue t-shirt and white trainers with a blue stripe.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police using the non-emergency 101 number.
