The wife of US Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has spoken of her Welsh grandfather's decision to move his family to USA in 1929.
"I am the granddaughter of a Welsh coal miner who was determined that his kids get out of the mines" she said in her speech at the Republican National Convention.
"My dad got his first job when he was six years old, in a little village in Wales called Nantyffyllon,cleaning bottles at the Colliers Arms.
"When he was 15, dad came to America. In our country, he saw hope and an opportunity to escape from poverty."
En route to the party convention, she offered Welsh cakes to members of various media organisations travelling with the campaign.
Ann Romney addressed the Republican Party's National Convention in Tampa, Florida on the evening her husband Mitt was formally nominated as presidential candidate.
