Sybil Christopher, the first wife of Richard Burton, has died at the age of 83.

The couple had two daughters together, before they divorced and he married Elizabeth Taylor for the first time.

She moved to New York, where she founded the New Theatre, and opened the iconic club Arthur, which welcomed some of the world's most glamorous celebrities in the 1960s.

Bay Street Theatre, which she also founded, says she was its "heart and soul", and its "thoughts are with her family that she loved dearly."

The Alec Baldwin Foundation described her as "a joy to work for and to be around."

Speaking at yesterday's unveiling, Michael Sheen reminisced about a visit by Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor to the village where he grew up.

"It was the same beach that I built my boyhood sandcastles and learnt to flailingly swim... it was that beach that one legendary day Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor descended like gods from Olympus... in a helicopter!"

"They stepped out swathed in luxurious fur coats - it was the Seventies - and walked among us for too short a time".

Richard Burton is finally to be given a place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - almost three decades after his death.

The star will be awarded the accolade on St David's Day and it'll be next to Elizabeth Taylor - the woman he married twice.

Welsh film icon Richard Burton is to be given a posthumous place on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

The accolade comes almost three decades after his death, with the ceremony taking place on St David's Day.

"I'm delighted with the news, particularly for the family" says Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis.

"The family have long felt that Richard ought to have this recognition, and in a way Hollywood is catching Wales up"

"He was a remarkable performer".

News that Richard Burton is to be given a star on the Walk Of Fame in Los Angeles was confirmed today by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

It follows a campaign by the Western Mail newspaper, led by Welsh business academic Professor Dylan Jones-Evans.

I am sure the people of Wales will be thrilled that he is receiving this accolade on the most special day for the Welsh nation, St David's Day. This public recognition for Richard Burton's body of work will not only help raise the profile of Wales internationally, but will also help to raise funds to provide scholarships in the legendary actor's name to support young Welsh talent at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.
