MPs urged to remember mining disaster

Caerphilly MP Wayne David has tabled a Commons motion marking the centenary of the Senghenydd mining disaster. 440 men and boys died following an explosion at the mine on 14 October 1913. Official commemorations will be held on Monday morning.

Tabling an Early Day Motion is a way for MPs to express their views in the Parliamentary record. Wayne David says:

I am sure that very many MPs will add their names to this EDM – It is important to remember what happened in Senghenydd and it is also important to remember those miners throughout the country who, over the years, have lost their lives in the coal industry.
