New car sales in Wales rose to 4,785 last month, an increase of 8.11% over April 2011, figures show.
Paul Everitt, from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, said the figures represent "a bit of an uplift" for consumer confidence and the economy.
"People have had a difficult time, but new car registrations show people are more confident of their own future, and prepared to commit to 'big ticket' items"
