On the rugby field, London Welsh have succeeded in their quest for a place in the Aviva Premiership - even if their chances of success off the pitch are still slim. They beat Cornish Pirates 29-20 last night, to secure a 66-41 aggregate victory in the Championship play-off final.

Their promotion to the top flight has been blocked by the RFU because of issues around not having tenure at their nominated ground - Oxford United's Kassam Stadium. The club has said it plans to appeal that decision, chairman Bleddyn Phillips saying they would do "everything within our power."
