'Michael's colleagues will be thinking of him'

The funeral of a soldier killed in Afghanistan has been held with full military honours at Coventry Cathedral.

Corporal Michael Thacker was originally from Wales but settled in Coventry with his wife and two-year-old daughter.

The 27-year-old was hit by small arms fire while while manning an observation post at Nahr-e-Saraj in Helmand province on June 1st.

His closest colleagues from First Batallion the Royal Welsh Fusiliers were unable to attend today's service, but Major Dave Crimmins, who was present, said Michael would be in their thoughts today.
