A young mother has been jailed at Merthyr Crown Court for leaving her baby home alone every day for a week while she went out drinking with friends.
The woman, 20, left her 15-month-old daughter in her cot while she was out.
The court heard heard how she would return each day, last Christmas and New Year, to feed the baby breakfast cereal and a microwave meal.
The alarm was raised when neighbours called police after hearing the child's screams coming from the house in Brecon, Powys.
The court heard two officers arrived to find the house in darkness, very cold inside and with all the rooms in a total mess.
The mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told police she'd been back to the house on four occasions to feed her baby but then left her home alone again.
The defendant admitted neglect, and was jailed for 15 months.
Geraint Jones, defending, said: "The mum hopes to rebuild her relationship with the her little girl very slowly when she leaves prison."
In sentencing, Judge John Curran said: "You may have gone back to the house on occassions but the fact is you neglected her for a very long time.
