A new £18.5-million mental health facility has been opened at Cefn Coed Hospital in Swansea. 'Ysbryd y Coed' is a 60-bed inpatient unit providing assessment and treatment for older people with dementia.
The Health Minister Lesley Griffiths officially opened it today. 'One in five people over the age of 80 has dementia. We need to act now to improve services', she said. 'Ysbryd y Coed is an excellent example of healthcare in Wales breaking through into world class standards.'
Win Griffiths, Chairman of Abertawe Bro Morgannwy University Health Board, said: 'I believe this unit represents a huge step forward in the care and treatment for patients with dementia.'
