2013 starts on a fine, bright but chilly note. New Year's Day starts dry and bright with some spells of lovely winter sunshine.
A couple of showers could develop later but for many it will remain dry.
In spite of the sunshine it will be chilly with highs of just 6-8C and a brisk breeze will make things feel chillier still.
The rest of the week sees the wind dropping but the cloud returning.
A couple of weak fronts will bring some damp and drizzly weather through Wednesday and Thursday before drying out on Friday.
Temperatures will recover, back in to double figures and fingers crossed a more settled pattern of weather will linger through the first part of January.
