Row over senior council staff pay

The Shadow Minister for Local Government is calling for an "honest and open" review of senior council staff pay scales. The move comes after it was claimed that half of the chief executives in Welsh councils earn more than the Prime Minister.

Welsh Government: 'Up to local authorities to raise pay '

A Welsh Government spokesman said local authorities are accountable to local taxpayers and their pay scale is a matter for them to determine.

It is for the authority to consider and balance the justification for any increase against value for money, public opinion and affordability.
