Welsh cyclist Nicole Cooke - who won a gold medal in the Olympic road race in Beijing in 2008 - has announced she's retiring from competitive cycling.

Nicole Cooke: "I'm proud I've stayed true to myself"

Earlier today, Nick Hartley spoke to Beijing road race Olympic champion Nicole Cooke.

Yesterday, she announced her retirement from competitive cycling, with a parting shot at cycling authorities and drug scandals within the sport.

"I have always been totally clear that I set out in cycling to see how far I could go clean, and that has always been the case for me" she told ITV News.

"I wanted to be able to sit here today and say that every one of those races I won was down to me riding clean. "
