Shock at Aberystwyth 'horse meat' investigation
Both the Operations Director of the Food Standards Agency and the UK Environment Secretary have spoken of their shock following the raids in West Yorkshire and at Llandre in Ceredigion.
– FSA Director of Operations Andrew RhodesI ordered a an audit of all horse producing abattoirs in the UK after this issue first arose last month and I was shocked to uncover what appears to be a blatant misleading of consumers. I have suspended both plants immediately while our investigations continue.
– Environment Secretary Owen Paterson MPThis is absolutely shocking. It's totally unacceptable if any business in the UK is defrauding the public by passing off horse meat as beef. I expect the full force of the law to be brought down on anyone involved in this kind of activity.
Council meals pulled following 'horsemeat' test result
Approved supplier Welsh Bros Foods confirmed a sample of its frozen minced beef has 'potentially tested positive' for above 1% horsemeat.
'Integrity and trust essential'
The Welsh Government says it is working with the police to ensure allegations of horse meat at a plant in west Wales are dealt with.
