Police appeal following driver 'bid to beckon boy'

Police in the Vale of Glamorgan are appealing for information after a man allegedly beckoned a young boy over to his car.

Officers said the driver was seen sitting in a car parked next to St Athan Community Centre in Lougher Place yesterday evening.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said the man shouted at the nine-year-old boy, who had been playing on his scooter.

The boy was very frightened by this incident and immediately went home to tell his mother what had happened. We are treating it as a suspicious incident at this stage and are appealing to anyone who saw this vehicle near the community centre at around 5.45pm on Wednesday evening to come forward.

Police would like to speak to a man described as white, aged 40-45, with stubble on his face, who was wearing a flat cap with a checked pattern.

The car is described as small and silver - possibly a Peugeot 207 - and had a cloth Welsh flag attached to the aerial.
