Cosmetic surgery regulation group

The Health Minister says that an expert group will be set up to consider whether Wales needs tighter regulation of cosmetic surgery. It comes after the publication of a report into regulating the procedure in England following the breast implant scandal.

More than two hundred patients in Wales have so far received surgery as a result of faulty PIP implants.

"Although the report was specifically aimed at the NHS in England, the Welsh Government has been kept informed with progress and developments.

"I am committed to ensuring that the highest possible standards are maintained for the people of Wales. I have therefore asked the Deputy Chief Medical Officer to convene an expert group to discuss the report's recommendations in detail and consider what actions we need to take."
