The middle of May is normally one of the gentler months for weather, this month however is turning out to be rather wetter, windier and cooler than normal.Today is a good case in point. A small but very active low pressure system is expected to bring some heavy rain to southern and eastern Wales.
During the rest of the day this system is expected to arc around south Wales then border areas during the evening. Yellow warnings are in force to be aware of heavy rain. The rain could cause surface water flooding in places, however, the ground is dry enough to soak up the bulk of the rain.
Temperatures away from the rain could reach 10C, but under the rain it will struggle with highs of 7C. Heavier downpours help to drag colder air from the upper atmosphere so we could see some spells of wet snow, particularly into the evening as the rain pulls northeastwards.
Northwestern parts of Wales should escape with a generally dry day, even some brightness.
Overnight there continues to be a risk of wet snow in eastern parts but it will mainly be rain. Elsewhere the rain moves away from the west. A chilly night tonight with a return to sunny spells and showers through tomorrow. More details shortly.
