An independent cinema which opened in Welshpool in 1938 will show its final films tonight.

The Pola has been run by three generations of the same family - but they say competition from multiplex cinemas has seen audiences fall.

Family-run cinema set to close after 75 years

One of Wales' iconic old-fashioned cinemas, the Pola in Welshpool, will close today. It opened in 1938, has been family-run for years, and still uses the traditional 35mm format.

The owners said closing was due to new technologies and spiralling costs, and it will show a final two films this evening.
