Prestatyn Town chairman proud of club's Europe efforts

Prestatyn Town's European adventure is all but over after losing 5-0 to Croatian side HNK Rijeka in the second qualifying round of the Europa League. A hat-trick from Leon Benko was the mainstay of a dominant Rijeka performance in front of a crowd of almost 10,000.

There is a second opportunity for the Seasiders to claw back the deficit during next Thursday's second leg, when the Croatian side travel to Wales firmly in control of the tie.

I am immensely proud of the players for their efforts tonight and of the loyal supporters who made the trip at such short notice. I would also thank our opponents, their president and management for the superb way they have looked after us and I don't think there is any disgrace in going down to a team of such obvious strength and quality. We now look forward to meeting them again and entertaining them in Wales next week.

– Phil Merrick, Prestatyn Town chairman
