Bale could become world's most expensive footballer

Gareth Bale could become the most expensive football player in history, with reports that Real Madrid will pay Tottenham up to £100m to sign the Wales star.

That would eclipse the £80m the Spanish giants paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo.

These are football's five biggest transfer fees to date:

  • Cristiano Ronaldo - £80m - Manchester United to Real Madrid, 2009
  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic - £60.1m - Inter Milan to Barcelona, 2009
  • Kaka - £56.1m - AC Milan to Real Madrid, 2009
  • Edison Cavani - £55m - Napoli to Paris Saint-Germain, 2013
  • Radamel Falcao - £51m - Atletico Madrid to Monaco, 2013
