Competitions get underway on the Maes today, after the Opening Concert of this year's National Eisteddfod last night.
The 2013 festival is being held in Denbighshire, on the outskirts of Denbigh, the same site as in 2001.
Organiser Hywel Edwards says he is hoping for more than 150,000 visitors over the eight days.
The National Eisteddfod celebrates the Welsh language, music, literature, culture, theatre and more.
Last year's event was hosted at the former Llandow airfield in the Vale of Glamorgan.
