Newport County AFC will be awarded the Freedom of the City of Newport before the start of their home game today.

Mayor Councillor Cliff Suller will present the official scroll to the club just before the team kicks-off their match against Bristol Rovers at Rodney Parade.

A decision to award the Freedom of the City to Newport AFC, and the 1963 Newport RFC team, was supported unanimously by the Newport council.

The honour will be presented to the surviving members of the Black and Ambers who, against the odds, beat the New Zealand All Blacks at a special dinner on the anniversary of the famous victory in October.
