The first round of the ISPS Handa Wales Open gets underway at the Celtic Manor Resort today, with a host of Ryder Cup stars including Darren Clarke, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Francesco Molinari taking part.
Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee will defend the title he won in testing conditions last year, to claim his first victory on European soil.
The tournament marks the start of the points race for qualification for the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland.
The Wales Open is now in its 14th consecutive year at the Celtic Manor Resort and boasts a prize fund of £1.8m.
Among those competing are Welshmen Rhys Williams and Phillip Price.
