Pregnant mothers have been transferred to hospitals as far as 172 miles away in England because of capacity problems at Welsh hospitals.

In a series of freedom of information requests, Plaid Cymru says it has discovered that maternity and neo-natal patients have been taken from South Wales to hospitals in Plymouth, Liverpool, The Wirral, Portsmouth and Oxford over the last two years.

The Welsh Government says the numbers are well within the expected transfer rates.
