Gareth Bale has missed out on a place on the shortlist for the FIFA World Player of the Year award despite having been named on the 23-man long-list.
The final vote for the 2013 Ballon d'Or will be fought out between Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Franck Ribery instead.
Bale had been named on the long-list following a superb 2012/13 season which culminated in a world record transfer (£85.3m) to Spanish giants Real Madrid in September 2013.
Barcelona forward Messi is in line for a fifth straight win while Portugal and Real Madrid forward Ronaldo won the award in 2008. The winner will be announced in Zurich on 13th January.
