In a statement announcing her departure, Heather Joyce described herself as "a reluctant Leader of the Council".
We have achieved a lot over the past two years and this has been an incredibly difficult decision but my husband is unwell and I have felt for a while that I need to devote more of my time to supporting him during a difficult period as well as turning my attention back towards by family and serving the people of Llanrumney.
I believe I stepped up to the plate as the Council Leader and leave the Council in a stronger position compared to when I was elected and am proud that during incredibly difficult circumstances we have managed to lay successful foundations that will serve the people of Cardiff well in the years ahead.
