Trains delayed as tracks 'too hot' in March sunshine

Trains were delayed today because tracks were too hot in the March sunshine.

The commuter route on the Welsh coast reported "high rail temperatures" on the lines - and trains were ordered to slow down.

Network Rail reported that "track monitoring equipment" has indicated high rail temperatures between Talacre and Mostyn in north Wales .

This means an emergency speed limit of 20mph has been imposed by Network Rail for approximately one mile between Prestatyn and Flint.

According to the Met Office, the temperature at Talacre hit 14 degrees.

I've heard some mad excuses but never that it is too hot in Wales in March. But at least we can sit in the sunshine while we are waiting for the train to arrive!

– Megan Morgan, Commuter

Trains were delayed for up to 20 minutes but commuters advised it would get back to normal when the sun dropped.
