Labour make gains while Lib Dems are wiped out

Labour gained Cardiff North, Vale of Clwyd and Gower from the Conservatives, winning their highest share of the Welsh vote since Tony Blair's first landslide victory in 1997.

The Liberal Democrats were wiped out after Mark Williams lost the Ceredigion seat to Plaid Cymru.

Labour confidence growing at north east Wales counts

Carole Green at the Wrexham and Clwyd South counts reports that the Labour camp say they are confident of holding both seats, based on sampling of the votes as they're verified prior to counting. Labour supporters say they're hearing same from Delyn, though it will be close.
