Diamond Jubilee celebrations continue today (friday) with a service at Gloucester Cathedral and the revival of a tradition stretching back centuries.

A lamprey pie will be presented to the Earl & Countess of Wessex.

Lampreys are a type of eel, and they were once fished widely in the river Severn and were very popular.

In medieval times the people of Gloucester would send a lamprey pie to every newly crowned monarch.

The tradition was revived for the Queen's coronation in 1953. The service is being hosted by Dame Janet trotter, the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire and the dean of Gloucester the Very Reverend Stephen Lake.
