A PhD student found dead at her home in Bath was strangled, post mortem tests have shown.
The body of 28 year old Carmen Buchara was discovered the Georgian home she shared with her partner, investment administrator Paul Keene.
31 year old Keene has appeared before magistrates accused of her murder and been remanded in custody to appear before Bristol Crown Court on July 10.
Police say officers were called to reports of a disturbance at the property in Bennett Street shortly after midnight on June 24. Emergency services found the body of Miss Buchara, known to friends and family as Gaby, at the scene.
The couple had an 11 week old baby who was found crying nearby.
Gaby was a fifth year research student at the University of Bath, where she was studying for an Integrated PhD in Postgenomic Biosciences.
Dr Richard Hooley, Head of the Department of Biology and Biochemistry, where Gaby studied, has paid tribute to Gaby, describing her as 'outstanding and gifted'.
He says her death has affected many colleagues and friends on campus.
