Murder inquiry launched over 'tragic' car death woman
A murder inquiry is continuing after the body of a young woman was found inside a burning car in what has been described as a 'tragic and brutal' incident by police. The body of 23-year-old Catherine Wells-Burr was discovered by firefighters early yesterday morning in a field in Ashill off the A358 near Ilminster, Somerset.
Fire crews were called to reports of a car on fire shortly before 6.30am.
– DETECTIVE CHIEF INSPECTOR SIMON CRISP, AVON AND SOMERSET POLICEA full investigation is underway and we are working tirelessly to identify the offender or offenders who committed this crime. There are many lines of enquiry that we are examining; one of those is that this may not have been a random attack and that Catherine knew her killers or killer. We now need to build up a picture of Catherine's life and I would appeal to anyone who knew her or of her to come forward and contact us. I can assure you we will find those responsible and bring them to justice.
The 23-year-old worked for Chard-based company Numatic International and was a graduate of Bath Spa University.
Speaking at a press conference at Taunton police station, Detective Chief Inspector of Avon and Somerset Police, Simon Crisp, appealed for members of the public to come forward with information.
Catherine Wells-Burr has been fondly remembered in tributes. The headteacher of her former school described her as friendly, gregarious and with a great sense of humour.
