Gloucester City reached the FA Cup first round for the first time in 23 years with a 1-0 win over Chippenham Town at Whaddon Road. The Tigers will now take on League One side Leyton Orient in the first round next month. A tight game on Saturday was settled by a late goal from City striker Darren Edwards, while Chippenham had Dean Griffiths sent off for two yellow cards.
Gloucester's match winner Darren Edwards was delighted to reach the first round for only the second time in his career, while for manager David Mehew, his 'lucky' tradition of hoovering the house on the morning on FA Cup matches this season once again paid off. But Chippenham manager Nathan Rudge was left to reflect on what might have been.
