Background on a very royal visit
by Rebecca Broxton
Thousands are expected to try to catch a glimpse of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh who are visiting Bristol today for the first time in seven years.
The royal couple have four appointments today.
They will be taking a look around the Bailey Caravan factory. The company is one of the UK's leading caravan and motorhome manufacturers.
They will also be heading to the Old Vic which re-opened just months ago after a multi-million pound refurbishment. The royal couple will sit in on a technical rehearsal for the forthcoming production of Peter Pan. The Stage Manager Suzy Somerville says she is thrilled at the opportunity.
The city's new Mayor George Ferguson will welcome the royal couple to the MShed for an official reception hosted by the City Council.
And then this afternoon the people of Hartcliffe will get the chance to see the Queen and the Duke up close as they tour the Gatehouse Centre.
Over the past 27 years it has helped hundreds of people, every week, to improve their skills and look for work.
