Full details of Gloucestershire flood protection plans

Gloucestershire County Council has confirmed how it will be spending more than £1m of efficiency savings in flood defence works across the county. Work has already started on some of the schemes across the county, with others expected to start within the next few months.

The schemes in Cheltenham are:

  • A flood bund and flood storage area at Hearne Brook, Charlton Kings
  • Property level flood protection in both Charlton Kings and Whaddon

In the Cotswolds:

  • Culvert relief and balancing pond in Northleach
  • De-silting of watercourse and mill ponds, plus highway drainage improvements in Blockley
  • New flood relief ditch and culvert in Lechlade

In the Forest of Dean:

  • Regrade of existing drainage ditch at the cricket club in Cinderford
  • Diversion of a watercourse and new culvert in Lydney
  • Enhancing the surface water system at Kells Meend in Berry Hill

In Gloucester:

  • Works on the River Twyver at Abbeydale to improve flow and prevent blockages
  • Desilting the section of the Blackditch at Hempsted under the canal and a section of downstream channel
  • Investigation, clearance and repair to a damaged drain/ culvert running adjacent to the road under the pavement in Bristol Road, Quedgeley
  • Barnwood Park balancing pond improvements

In Stroud:

  • Constructing a bund to form an attenuation pond at Lovedays Mill in Painswick

In Tewkesbury:

  • Flood alleviation bund at Leigh
  • Weir improvements at The Vineyards
  • Bank reinstatement at Bramble Chase
  • Channel improvements upstream of the Horsbere Brook flood alleviation scheme
