Lightning strikes in Gloucestershire

Not many people would count themselves lucky after learning their house had been struck by lightning, but that is how Miles Pledger feels today.

If Miles and his family hadn't been heading on holiday they would have been in their beds. Beds which were buried under plasterboard and brickwork after their house was hit during the storms over the weekend.

Today repair work was in full flow, but for the neighbours that were there when the house was hit, it was a sound and a sight that few will forget:

The rain that came with the storm was a blessing and a curse, ruinig family posessions but preventing a fire that could have spread to other homes.

25 miles east in Ampney Crucis, this large house was also hit by lightning which did cause a fire, destroying the roof and gutting the top floor once again no-one was hurt.
