Bath Paralympic Lantern celebrations

Eight inspirational Bath and North East Somerset residents are to lead a 2,000m Lantern Relay – exchanging the Paralympic Lantern from one bearer to the next – in front of the Rio Carnival Procession as it makes its way through the centre of Bath and into the Recreation Ground this afternoon.

The Lantern will then be handed to ParalympicGB’s Flame Ambassador and double-gold medallist Steve Brunt MBE who will place it on the stage at the Recreation Ground for the duration of the Paralympic Flame Celebration.

After the Paralympic Flame Celebration, the Paralympic Lantern will be put on display for the public to see in the Sun Lounge at the Pump Room, Bath, from Sunday 26 to Tuesday 28 August.

Paralympic flame arrives in Bath

The Paralympic flame arrived in Bath today after it was lit at a ceremony in London this morning. It's touring the country ahead of the beginning of the games themselves next Wednesday.

Many athletes from our region will be taking part, all aiming for glory.

Richard Lawrence was in Bath to see the flame arrive and has been meeting some of the athletes.
