James Ward, 58, was left fighting for his life after he was shot in Devizes on July 2.
The married father-of-three, from Westbury, Wiltshire, was taken to hospital where he died on July 22.
Michael Chudley, 62, originally from Rowde, Wiltshire, is due to appear at Winchester Crown Court in connection with the shooting.
