Panda-monium in the Zoo snow
Some of Bristol Zoo's residents are happy to stay outdoors in the snow. The Zoo's two red pandas are native to the mountainous regions of Nepal and Southwest China and well-equipped to deal with very cold weather.
Their fur is long and thick to protect against rain and cold. They also have fur on the soles of their feet to help grip on wet branches and to keep them warm when walking on snow.
Visitors today will not see much of the 19 meerkats though, who tend to retreat into their heated indoor enclosures. It is a similar story for the ring-tailed lemurs, the okapis and squirrel monkeys.
