Prison officers have been demonstrating outside parliament today over the closure of seven jails around the country, including two here in the West.
– Prison Service SpokespersonWe are considering the future use of all the prison sites due to close. No decisions have been made. We are determined to drive down the costs of running our prisons. That's why we are replacing inefficient accommodation with new facilities which provide better value for money, are suitable to a modern prison estate, and which can work more effectively to reduce reoffending.
