A Dorset MP has been fighting for a bigger slice of Police funding today. It currently is the least funded force in the country. Dorset's Police and Crime Commissioner is already exploring sponsorship opportunities in a way to boost revenue.
A Dorset MP has called on the government to change the way the county's police force is funded, claiming it's facing the highest proportionate loss of officers and receives the lowest funding per head.
The county's Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill has already raised the possibility of commmercial sponsorship to raise extra money. Today south Dorset MP Richard Drax said in Parliament that the funding formula was wrong.
A Parliamentary debate on the funding of Dorset Police will be held in Westminster today. Dorset MP Richard Drax is calling for it to be fairer. Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill says more funding would allow them to offer "greater protection to community policing."
